Creepy crawly roadshow

Our exciting new topic about minibeasts is called 'why do ladybirds have spots?'
Today the creepy crawly roadshow visited us bringing lots of interesting creatures.

We saw a sleeping butterfly, who's name was Magic, where we could make a wish. We discovered that Butterflies don't taste like we do, they actually taste with their feet!

Our next encounter was a hissing cockroach, he was really big. He was a bit quiet at first, until Tracey moved him a little bit so we could hear the interesting noise he made. Hissing cockroaches taste with their antennae, they are super at hearing, can not move backwards and are faster than any other minibeast! How interesting!

We then met two African land snails. One called Brian, who looked like the snails we find outside (only much bigger!) and Snowy, whose body was white and had a lighter shell. We discovered that snails are not boys or girls, they can not see very well, they like to eat chicken, fish, paper and cardboard and what we found the most interesting is...... They have 2 noses.... 2!

Next, an African train millipede appeared. He was so big and had lots of legs! This one had 700, but the bigger he gets, he will grow more- up to 1000!

We then got to meet a stick insect. We learnt that insects have 6 legs and wings, although all can not fly, and the stick insect s one of them. This stick insect pretended to be a scorpion and curled its tail up and round, and then pretended to be a praying mantis with its arms when Tracey coached it.

Next, was a spider. It was a bit angry and didn't want to come out of its tank, so we just had a peek. We thought it was a tarantula, but John said it wasn't. It was big and hairy though!

Our last visitor was a snake, who had beautiful colours and patterns on its skin.

We learnt so much and really enjoyed seeing all the different minibeasts. Some of us were even brave enough to hold them....
