RP Minibeast hunt at Park View in Lytham

Despite the weather, RP had so much fun today at Lytham hall park on their Minibeast hunt.

First we listened to Rachel and Julie tell us all about the different mini beasts we could find in the environment.

We then visited the kitchen garden, where there was lots of interesting things growing we could explore such as potatoes and lots of herbs. We smelt chives, mint, rosemary and even lemon!

We dug for worms and then looked at how they move about in the soil- the ladies were very impressed that we knew that they had tiny hairs on them as they said not a lot of people know that- luckily we had already done some research.

We saw some hives where there were thousands of bees in, and investigated some of the insides- where the bees lay their eggs and make the honey. We had a good smell.

We enjoyed our snack in the lovely warm heat before going back outside in the rain to look for lots of different mini beasts and collect them in our trays and magnifying glass tubs. We searched in trees, under logs and statues and anywhere we might find them trying to keep dry. We then used clay and natural materials to create our very own Minibeast.

We returned back in to the warm to enjoy our dinner before then exploring the park. We had to stay off the slides because they were so wet, but we had so much fun climbing, manoeuvring and playing games on the park. Some of us were also daring enough to go on the zip wire....
